A Few Things They Forgot to Tell Us

Published by thomasforthe at 12:10 pm under rants Edit This

Having lived into my fifth decade now, I have discovered that some of the things I learned in school may have been faulty.

Some things seem to have slipped through the cracks of the education system, back in the day.

Not all of the “missing” information was their fault, certainly not even having one computer in the school office could be counted among the reasons for the missing facts.

Another could be that I may have been absent on some of the days the pertinent information was given out, if playing hooky had been a major, I would have made the honor roll.

Missing information like, where was I the day they handed out the 30 page dissertation on multi-tasking and that it would be so important to learn?

What about knowing I needed to specialize my career field to a microcosmic standard and get 47 other full degrees to fulfill all other job requirements?

At what point was I fishing when the remaining class had reality explained to them? Like it takes or took seven to twelve years to receive a degree, but a sheet metal worker will need to attend higher learning for at least a century to have any chance of being employable?

A sheet metal degree is four years, but what they don’t tell you as with all other occupations, is that this is only the beginning. You also need to be a welder, a drafter, a mechanic, a carpenter, a plumber, a bricklayer, a painter, a sheet rocker, an electrician and have backgrounds in estimating and customer service. I’m quite sure  that I missed a few! At least according to the last ad I read.

Where was I when they told us that one day we would realize that while we were learning all of this, someone took a two year class in management and became our boss….
