Have you ever known someone who just plain personified luck? How about someone with no luck at all? I have known both in my life and yet I seem to fall somewhere in between. I know a man, I’ll call him Fred, no his real name is not Fred but, Fred will do here.

If Fred had been on the titanic, he would have survived, saved his family and all he knew! While rowing to a rescue ship a treasure chest would have floated up filled with Doubloons, someone would have offered to pay him very well to tell his story and happily ever after would have snuck up and embraced him whole heartedly. Don’t get me wrong he earns what he gets but he does have the Midas touch!

Another friend is on opposite ends, though bad luck really isn’t what you would call it. We’ll call him John. The Titanic is sinking, John is lost in thought, fishing. Finally noticing disaster has struck he would watch as his wife and kids were evacuated safely and jump overboard. Landing straddling a floating log, his last conscious thought before passing out in agony, would be to wonder how he had broken his fishing pole… again! Dragged from the sea by a passing freighter headed for Moscow he would no doubt find his person ensconced among the farm animals in the hold, and work to earn his passage shoveling their effluence….

Me? I would have floated around for several days before an overloaded boat of Cuban refugees rowed up to ask directions….
